Israel is a hub for technological development and innovation. Second only to the U.S. in the number of alternative protein startups and investments globally, Israel plays a critical role in developing the food of the future.
As a nonprofit working to build a sustainable, secure, and just food system, we partner with companies and investors across Israel to drive investment, accelerate innovation, and scale the supply chain—all faster than market forces alone would allow.
Israeli early-stage successes
2023 was a record-breaking year for alternative protein startups founded (15) and the second-best year in early-stage funding to date (US$35 million).
This is largely thanks to Israel’s thriving academic ecosystem, with over 70 active alternative protein researchers across 11 academic institutions, and two dedicated food tech research centers announced. The government also provided critical support for alternative proteins, including millions in funding for research grants, startups, and workforce training.
Beyond early-stage innovation, established Israeli startups continued to grow, launching nine new products across global markets and founding six new production facilities.
